A downtown church in urban Jefferson County, Ohio, First Westminster
is striving to be a witness to the Ohio Valley as we share the gospel of
Jesus Christ. As you'll see when you visit our "Ministries" page, First
Westminster is a spot where much ministry and mission take place in
the heart of Steubenville, Ohio.

First Westminster marks her beginning even before Ohio became a
state. In 1801 Presbyterians first met to form the congregation that
would one day become Westminster Presbyterian.

It was 1914 when Westminster Church began as a merger of two former
Presbyterian congregations. This early Jefferson County church has the
esteemed privilege of having nationally acclaimed evangelist Billy
Sunday laying their cornerstone and preaching on its inaugural Sunday
in 1914.

In the late 1980's another merger with the former First United
Presbyterian Church (formerly located just one block away in the 200
block of North 5th Street) created what is now known as First
Westminster Presbyterian Church.

First Westminster Presbyterian Church is part of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A.
