Set a Goal: Spiritual Fitness

Part #1: Don’t forget to Stretch

Healing a Withered Hand

Mark 3:1-6

Then[a] Jesus[b] entered the synagogue[c] again, and a man was there who had a withered[d] hand. They watched[e] Jesus[f] closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath,[g] so that they could accuse him. So he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Stand up among all these people.”[h] Then[i] he said to them, “Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath, or evil, to save a life or destroy it?” But they were silent. After looking around[j] at them in anger, grieved by the hardness of their hearts,[k] he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.[l] So[m] the Pharisees[n] went out immediately and began plotting with the Herodians,[o] as to how they could assassinate[p] him.

  1. Combat Complacency--rigid and stiff; limited mobility.
  2. Physical—arthritis
  3. Emotional--grief
  4. Spiritual—fear

Romans 12:2-3  Do not be conformed[c] to this present world,[d] but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve[e] what is the will of God—what is good and well-pleasing and perfect. For by the grace given to me I say to every one of you not to think more highly of yourself than you ought to think, but to think with sober discernment, as God has distributed to each of you[f] a measure of faith.

  1. Stretch—before and after the workout
  2. Increased Flexibility
  3. Awaken the Spirit

1 Timothy 4:8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
